I am extremely excited about the prospect of reestablishing in Washington a voice for Mountaineers in the 1st District of West Virginia, a voice of reason, a voice of and for fair-minded West Virginians. If successful in the 2010 May Primary, West Virginians will have a real choice this November: Party Politics vs. Mountaineer Interests.
Today, Mountaineers’ concerns have been overshadowed by Political Party Power Grabs. Washington Lobbyist representing special interest groups have the ear of our Representative in Congress. Mountaineers freedoms have been trampled in the rush to pass restrictive legislation to control our lives and saddle our children in ways one could not imagine just a decade ago!
Our Government, with full support of Mr. Mollohan, has ballooned out of control. Einstein defined crazy as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. “For 28 years I have watched my state sink lower on the economic ladder. Prosperous Industries producing capital goods, a solid tax base, and well paying jobs have disappeared from our district. When I was little, My Father walked the tracks to work at Owens in Fairmont. Owens and many others have abandoned the 1st District. We comprise one of the best workforces in the world yet new industries have settled for less in other states and countries, as our state’s economy declined.
West Virginia’s coal powers the nation and West Virginia has one of the larger reserves of Natural Gas yet West Virginia continues as one of the poorest economies in the country. We the people of West Virginia need to be unleashed from the maze of self-serving bureaucratic government regulations so we can work and prosper from our God given natural resources. We don’t need a Representative that works to increase the authority of Washington well beyond the confines of the constitution.”
Congress allows too many laws to be written by special interest groups and their lobbyist. I will work to eliminate programs and regulations that are intrusive, outdated or against the interest of Mountaineers.
I respect the Constitution as the world’s greatest frame work of preserving individual’s freedoms. The constitution restricts the government’s reach. If elected I will champion individual freedoms and battle advancements from any party that attempts to diminish our God given freedoms.
Congressman take a solemn oath to support the constitution, this means determining constitutional authority for acts before passing legislation. I will work to require that all legislation contain an explanation of its constitutional authority, requiring an examination of each proposal’s constitutional legitimacy.
We must build on the core values that we as West Virginians hold to be true based upon the principals of free enterprise, individual freedom, limited government, and a strong national defense. I believe “History has proven us to be the most charitable and fair minded people on the face of the earth. We must be allowed to act in our best interest. I pledge that I will listen to you and act in your best interest! ”
